Last Friday, we attended the 80th birthday celebration of our friend’s father. It was a beautiful and heartwarming event—full of love, laughter, and the kind of joy that comes from a life well-lived.

There’s something truly special about seeing someone reach this incredible milestone. Eighty years!
What an amazing gift. It made me pause and think: I want to reach this age.
I want to celebrate a life filled with love, purpose, and the people who matter most.

But then, a part of me wonders… Will I?

A Shift in Perspective on Age

My Mama passed away at just 55 years old, and at the time, I was almost 17. Back then, I thought 55 was already old. I couldn’t imagine anything beyond that. But as I grew older and met people well into their 60s, 70s, and even 80s, I realized just how young 55 really is.

Now that I’m 53, I know that 55 isn’t old at all. There’s still so much life to live, so many memories to make. And yet, 80—that feels like a dream. A dream that I hope, with God’s grace, will come true.

Wishing for More Time

If I’m blessed with many more years, I know exactly how I want to spend them. I want to grow old with my love, creating memories and cherishing every moment together. I want to see my grandchildren grow, be there for them, and enjoy every hug, laugh, and story they share with me.

I want to live with purpose, making each day meaningful, staying productive, and filling my life with the things that bring me joy.

A Valentine’s Celebration in Red

The birthday celebration was even more special because it happened to be Valentine’s Day! ❤️ Everyone, including us, was wearing red, and it made the whole event feel even more festive. There was something beautiful about seeing people of all ages, dressed in red, celebrating both life and love on the same day.

Looking Ahead with Gratitude

None of us really know how many years we have left, but what I do know is that I want to make the most of the time I have. I want to fill my days with love, laughter, family, and purpose. And if I’m lucky enough to reach 80, I want to look back with a heart full of gratitude, knowing that I lived a life well spent.

Here’s to more birthdays, more milestones, and more time to love and be loved. 💛
