— Starting My Wellness Journey at 53 💚

It’s never too late to start taking care of ourselves—and this year, I’ve decided to take more intentional steps (literally and figuratively) toward better health and wellness.

If you’re in your fabulous 50s like me (yes, we are still fabulous! ✨) and wondering, “How many steps should I be taking daily?”—you’re not alone.

As someone managing both diabetes and hypertension, staying active has become not just a goal, but a lifelong commitment. I’ve learned that I can’t take my health for granted—and small, consistent habits really do make a big difference.

So here’s the target I’m working toward:
6,000 to 8,000 steps a day. 🚶‍♀️💚

✅ Starting Where I Am

I won’t pretend I’m already hitting that number. Nope, I’m starting with 3,000 steps a day and slowly increasing by 500 to 1,000 steps each week, depending on how my body feels.

I used to think I had to be perfect right away—but I’ve learned that consistency beats perfection every time. Whether it’s walking in place while watching Netflix, or taking extra laps in the grocery aisle (yes, that counts!), the important thing is to just keep moving.

✅ Yoga: My Sanctuary of Strength and Stillness

Aside from walking, one of the most beautiful gifts I gave myself last year was yoga. I started practicing at Ann Yoga Studio in July 2024, and since then, I’ve been showing up every Sunday and Wednesday.

Yoga helps me manage stress, improve my breathing, and center my thoughts—things that are so important when dealing with high blood pressure. It’s where I can pause, stretch, and just breathe.

It’s more than a workout. It’s my weekly reset, my time to take care of not just my body, but also my heart and mind.

✅ Why This Matters

With both diabetes and hypertension in the picture, I’ve learned to stop ignoring my health and start prioritizing it.

Walking and yoga help me:

  • Regulate my blood sugar and blood pressure
  • Improve circulation
  • Strengthen my heart and lungs
  • Lift my mood and energy levels
  • And most of all, feel in control of my own well-being

I want to be strong not just for myself—but for my family, for my apo(s), and for the many more years I want to live happy, active, and free with my Love.

💬 Moving Forward with Faith

This journey is personal, but it’s also spiritual. Every step I take is an act of trust in God’s plan. 🙏
So here’s what I’m committing to:

  • Start slow and steady
  • Keep showing up to Ann Yoga Studio (thank you, yoga fam!)
  • Make movement a daily non-negotiable
  • Choose wellness over excuses
  • And walk hand-in-hand with Papa God, knowing He’s guiding me in every step of this journey

So if you’re like me—in your 50s, living with diabetes or hypertension, wondering if it’s too late to start:
It’s not. It never is.

Let’s walk into better health, one gentle step at a time. 💚💪
